A woman’s scathing rejection to become a bridesmaid has been backed online, after she cited one particular reason.
The woman said her childhood best friend’s brother was getting married, and she was surprisingly asked to become a bridesmaid.
The Reddit user explained that over the years of being friends, she had become part of the family but was shocked to be asked to take on the wedding party role.
After rejecting the request, the woman offered one savage explanation, which led to an almighty blow-up, she said.
“She is not a girl’s girl,” she wrote in a Reddit post.
“She (fawns) over the guys and will make backhanded compliments to put down the women around her so she looks better.”
The woman explained that people in the family do not “care” for the bride and that the groom’s mother has been having a “rough time” with the relationship.
“My best friend tries to avoid her as much as possible, and I have seen her behaviour.”
The woman explained that the bride-to-be had asked her sister-in-law, who is the Reddit user’s best friend, to be a bridesmaid first.
However, she had been unable to find two more bridesmaids, in order to match with the number of groomsmen on the day.
“Last I heard, she asked her boss and was turned down,” she wrote.
The woman claimed it was the bride-to-be’s behaviour towards other woman that meant “she doesn’t have any girlfriends”.
“I got a call from her, and she asked me to be her bridesmaid,” recounted the Reddit user.
After telling her “no” politely, her husband received a call from the bride-to-be.
“My husband handed me the phone, and we got into an argument,” she said.
“It went on for a while and in the end I told her that it is not my fault she doesn’t have (a) female friend,”
After abruptly hanging up, the woman said she is now being pestered to apologize by the groom-to-be, with the situation resulting in a “big mess”.
Despite the family’s plea for reconciliation, others online backed the woman and her brutal response.
“It’s her own fault and you don’t owe her anything,” one user wrote.
Another added that “she had it coming”.
One user even suggested that the bride-to-be would be likely to stitch up her bridesmaids.
“Why be a bridesmaid for someone who you’re not friends with?” they asked.
“She’s just using you to make her look good.
“She sounds (like the type of) person to put you all in terrible dresses to make her look good”.
Rejecting the bridesmaid proposal might have been a responsible decision, given the experiences shared by others online.
