THE one blot on Brodie Kostecki’s dominant afternoon at the NTI Townsville 500 was a crash midway through his celebratory burnout.
Despite the clash with the wall on the Turn 7 runoff road, Kostecki continued with his skid.
The effort was a repeat of Will Davison’s celebration fail from the corresponding event in 2013.
The moment brought a smile to his face, with his engineer George Commins back in the pits.
“Oh, I had some guys down from Summernats and from the Castlemaine Rod Shop… so I didn’t want to disappoint them, but I’ll have to work on that a little bit!” Kostecki noted post-race on the broadcast.
“I thought you guys couldn’t see it through the smoke.
“So, then I need to do a better job getting a bit more smoke, but I’m super stoked for everyone at the Shell V-Power Racing Team.
“The #17 Ford Mustang was absolutely on fire; it’s had this potential the whole weekend, we just haven’t executed, but I’m so pleased with that.”
Later, Kostecki unpacked the moment further.
“Hey, mine’s a bit different (to Davison’s) – mine was a tip in!” He said.
“I saw obviously a lot of people there, so I was stoked to, obviously, get the win.
“I didn’t even ask this time around; I just did one.
“So, you know, I really felt like the whole team really needed to see one and obviously all the people that have come here to come watch as well.
“So it’s hard for us to do burnouts these days with how many engines we get.
“So I’d say give us more engines, just for some more burnouts!”
