The father-of-three was out for his morning walk when, unprovoked, he was allegedly set upon and knocked unconscious.
Officers labelled it a “cowardly and callous attack”.
He remained fighting for life in a critical condition in hospital on Sunday and police were desperately trying to track down the alleged attacker.
Police said Ash was Caucasian in appearance, 170-175 centimetres tall, of medium build, with black short hair, black eyes and was unshaven.
“He is known to utilise public transport and frequents the Carlingford, Fairfield, and surrounding areas,” NSW Police said.
“Anyone who sees this man is urged NOT TO APPROACH him but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.”
