Ella MacPhee soared to another World Cup podium on Sunday, this time in the under-23 women’s XCO. That incredible performance gives Canada one podium for each day of this weekend’s racing in Andorra.

Rafaelle Carrier kicked the podium haul off with an short track (XCC) podium. Gracey Hemstreet added an elite downhill podium on Saturday. MacPhee keeps the streak going for Canada with her podium on Sunday.

MacPhee cuts through thin Andorran air for XCO podium

MacPhee (Wilier-Vittoria) fought through the reasonably high altitude Pal Arinsal venue to take second place in the under-23 women’s XCO on Sunday. Valentina Corvi (Canyon XC Racing) continued her strong season by taking another win while Fiona Schibler of Switzerland rounded out the podium in third.

Marin Lowe (Liv Factory) was in 15th, Rafaelle Carrier 21st, Alexia Harel 22nd and Elli Clark 23rd, all on the lead lap.

In the under-23 men’s XCO, Germany’s dominant Paul Schehl (Lexware Mountainbike Team) added yet another win to his World Cup campaign.  Thibaut Francois Baudry (Canyon XC Racing) followed in second with Nicolas Halter (Thomus Arkos-Youngstars) in third.

Maxime St. Onge led the Canadian u23 men in 42nd, with Soren Weselake 43rd, Tristain Taillefer 44th, Felix Antoine LeClair 46th and Alexander Woodford 47th.

Favourites fly in elite XCO World Cup in Andorra

In the elite racing, Adrien Boichis (Specialized) added another big win to his season. Mathis Azzaro (Origine Racing) followed in second place. Only Germany’s Luca Schwarzbauer (Canyon XC Racing) was able to break up another French podium sweep by taking third place.

Carter Woods led the Canadian effort. Finishing one spot behind his Giant Factory Off-Road Team buddy, Dario Lillo, Woods placed an impressive 13th. Cole Punchard (Cannondale) was the next best Canuck in 37th. Gunnar Holmgren (Pivot Cycles-OTE) was 48th, Tyler Orschel (KMC Nukeproof) 57th, Owen Clark 67th.

On the women’s side, there was no stopping Jenny Rissveds. Racing close to her adopted home, just one valley over in Andorra, the Canyon XC racing star safely won the elite women’s race, beating Martina Berta (Origine Racing) and Specialized’s Sina Frei.

Emilly Johnston (Scott-SRAM) was the top Canadian in 35th.
