Prince Harry has been photographed leaving Althorp House, the Spencer family estate where his late mother, Princess Diana, is buried, following reports he hoped to take Meghan Markle and their two children to visit her grave.
The 41-year-old Duke of Sussex was seen being driven away from the Northamptonshire estate on Friday evening, according to The Sun.
The newspaper had previously reported that Harry and Meghan, 44, planned to take Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to Diana’s grave, which is located on an island in the middle of the estate’s ornamental lake.
It has also been reported that the Sussexes hoped to film the visit for an upcoming Netflix documentary, which is reportedly due to be released next year to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
Diana, Princess of Wales, died on August 31, 1997, following a high-speed car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. She was just 36 years old.
Althorp House, which is owned by Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, was closed to the public over the weekend in an unusual move, prompting further speculation the Sussexes had visited the estate.
However, it has not been confirmed when the reported visit took place, or whether it has already occurred.
Meghan and the children flew to Britain from Europe last week but have not been seen publicly.
The reported Althorp visit came hours after Harry and Meghan were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Highgrove in Gloucestershire, in what was widely viewed as a significant step towards reconciliation within the Royal Family.
The reunion marked the first time King Charles, 77, had seen his grandchildren in four years and only his second time meeting Lilibet.
While King Charles appeared willing to put past grievances aside by reuniting with Harry and meeting his grandchildren, there has been no indication of a reconciliation between the Duke of Sussex and his older brother, the Prince of Wales.
No meeting between the brothers has been reported, despite the pair carrying out separate engagements in Britain last week while only a short distance from one another.
According to TalkTV’s Mark Dolan, William, 44, is “furious” that his father met with his estranged brother.
“It is my understanding that William’s furious about this. Why? Because it’s a reward for the treachery, the disloyalty and the cruelty of Harry and Meghan,” Dolan told Sky News Australia host Paul Murray.
“Of course, the reason why is that Charles wants to see his grandchildren, and I understand that, but I think that Harry and Meghan had no right to be on a royal property- but they got their way as per usual.”
