A woman has been left with the embarrassing task of telling her neighbour that she could be seen showering through her frosted bathroom window.
The woman asked for advice on Reddit, saying her neighbour “doesn’t know that her frosted glass isn’t enough to obscure the view of her showering”.
“My neighbour is an older woman, and has frosted glass on her large bathroom window, facing the street,” she wrote.
“When she is showering, you can see everything.”
She explained that she wanted to tell her neighbour but did not want her to feel embarrassed.
“Obviously, the right thing to do is tell her, but we have never spoken to each other, and I don’t want to embarrass her,” she said.
“I was thinking I should maybe just leave her an anonymous letter, but at the same time, I have no idea how to word it and preserve her dignity.
“It has probably been this way for years.”
Commenters were divided, with some against an anonymous letter while others urged her to speak to the neighbour in person.
“I think an anonymous letter is way scarier than a quick conversation,” one person wrote.
“As a female who has lived alone, letting her know that the note is from a well-meaning person and not some stalker would very much be the best thing to do,” another person commented.
One commenter suggested how to tell her neighbour in person.
“‘Ma’am, I am very sorry to come to you, but I am worried you don’t know everyone can see through your bathroom windows,” they wrote.
“‘I’m not trying to be funny, I’m concerned for your safety. If you know, sorry, I won’t bother you again.'”
Another commenter shared a similar embarrassing experience.
“This happened to me. Do not stop her on the sidewalk and emphasise repeatedly that you can see everything,” the person commented.
“A note is a good method, even with your name.”
In an update posted to Reddit, the woman revealed she had asked another neighbour, who was on friendlier terms with the elderly resident, to speak with her.
“My next-door neighbour knocked on her door and talked to her. She was quite embarrassed but thankful that she was made aware,” the woman wrote.
“She said she had a curtain up before but took it down… 10 years ago. She really thought you couldn’t see in.
“The curtain will be put back up.”
