WASHINGTON – There’s another Pettitte entering the Yankees organization.
The club drafted Luke Pettitte, son of longtime Yankee left-hander and current special adviser Andy Pettitte, with its eighth-round pick Sunday.
Luke Pettitte, 21, is a two-way player who did not pitch this spring at Dallas Baptist after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, serving as the DH and hitting 16 home runs in 42 games. It remains to be seen how the Yankees will use the right-hander, assuming he signs.
Aaron Boone was genuinely excited to learn the Yankees had selected Pettitte after his team finished a sweep of the Nationals on Sunday.

“We did? Oh yeah!” Boone said after a 5-3 win. “Heck yeah! Oh, I’m fired up.”
According to Baseball America, Pettitte has “some of the best command in the 2026 [draft] class.” Boone added that as a hitter, Pettitte has “big power” and “pretty good genes” from a pitching standpoint.

Andy Pettitte, who coached his sons in high school, pitched 15 seasons in pinstripes and won five World Series titles before rejoining the organization in 2023. He is around the club occasionally, working specifically with the pitching staff, and has served as an important mentor for a number of arms, including Cam Schlittler.
“Andy’s become a really good friend now,” Boone said. “He’s not here, but they know he’s around a lot and a big part of our staff and our culture. Getting to know Luke and his journey and his story — having Tommy John and going out and raking in college this year.
“That fires me up. Looking forward to seeing his journey unfold. He’s a great kid. That’s great news.”
