The Storm’s horror injury season has just gone from bad to worse with Cameron Munster to have surgery on his knee after sustaining a cartilage injury.
The five-eighth last played in the State of Origin decider last Wednesday as the Maroons were outclassed by the Blues.
Despite being initially named to back up against the Titans last Sunday, the 31-year-old was ruled out at the 24-hour mark as the Storm narrowly edged past a determined Gold Coast outfit.
And now it has now been confirmed that he will go under the knife for a knee issue, which is understood to be a meniscus injury.
The Storm have confirmed Munster will begin his rehabilitation with club medical staff and is expected to be sidelined for at least four to six weeks.
Tyran Wishart is expected to fill in at No. 6 alongside Jarome Hughes, who made a successful return from injury last week.
It is a major blow for Craig Bellamy’s side, who are desperately trying to remain in contention for the finals after a horror start to the 2026 campaign where they went on a club record seven-game losing streak.
The Storm, who have a tough run home facing five top eight sides in their final seven matches, sit two wins outside of a finals place entering this week.
And Munster’s injury is just the latest blow for a side who is having some awful luck with injuries in 2026.
Star winger Xavier Coates and last year’s second rower of the year, Eli Katoa, have missed the entire season.
While Jahrome Hughes, Nick Meaney, Jack Howarth, Tui Kamikamica, Tyran Wishart and Moses Leo have all spent time on the sidelines.
The Storm hasn’t missed the finals since 2010 when they were stripped of their competition points as part of their punishment for salary cap breaches.
They head to Sydney on Friday night to face the Roosters.
