In the world of high-end real estate, a celebrity pedigree doesn’t always guarantee a bidding war. Case in point: for two years, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck haven’t been able to offload their enormous Beverly Hills home even after multiple price cuts. During the protracted process, Affleck gifted Lopez his half of the estate, but she still had trouble selling. But now, it appears that Lopez is finally saying goodbye to the palatial pad.

The New York Post reported that the mansion—last on the market for just under $50 million, down from the original $68 million—is now in escrow, meaning Lopez has accepted an offer. One of her brokers, Branden Williams of the Beverly Hills Estates, confirmed the news to the outlet. He also teased that the mystery buyer is a well-known man in tech. “Everybody knows his name,” Williams said, without disclosing the person’s identity.

As the saga reaches a seeming conclusion, ELLE Decor is looking back on what really went on from the beginning.

In June 2018, a few years before Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance, the contemporary French château’s prior owner listed it for a staggering $135 million. The five-acre Beverly Crest property comprises a 38,000-square-foot main house, originally built in 2000, that includes 12 bedrooms, plus a 5,000-square-foot guesthouse, caretaker cottage, and two-bedroom guardhouse. Per Zillow, the owner ended up cutting the price four times in five years, ultimately landing on a $75 million price tag in March 2023—more than a 44 percent total drop.

Lopez and Affleck got back together in the spring of 2021, with the media and fans dubbing them “Bennifer 2.0.” The couple got engaged the following April and wed in the summer of 2022 with two separate ceremonies, one in Las Vegas and one in Riceboro, Georgia. By the start of 2023, Lopez revealed they had blended their families and started moving in together, but they were still house hunting, allegedly viewing 80 homes. After three potential sales on different properties fell through, the couple officially closed on the fully furnished Beverly Crest estate in May 2023, buying it for $60.85 million.

Affleck and Lopez’s marriage turned out to be short-lived—by early 2024 separation rumors started surfacing. In June 2024, a little over a year after closing on their opulent home, TMZ reported the couple was quietly shopping it as a pocket listing as they headed toward divorce, with Affleck already out of the house for good. They officially put it on the market on July 11, 2024, for $68 million with Santiago Arana of The Agency. Less than two weeks later, Affleck bought his own $20.5 million home in Brentwood, all but confirming the split. Lopez filed for divorce a month later, on August 20, their two-year wedding anniversary, citing irreconcilable differences.

May 2025: First Price Reduction

With their divorce finalized in January 2025 and the mansion lingering on the market, Affleck and Lopez slashed roughly $8 million off the price on May 6, 2025, a nearly 12 percent cut. TMZ reported that Lopez continued to reside at the home during this time, as she renovated her new Hidden Hills estate. The $59.95 million price essentially ensured they’d take a loss on the estate. They removed it from the multiple listing service (MLS) on July 2, with People claiming it was a “business decision that they made together.”

In the aftermath of their split, the ex-couple reportedly modified their property settlement, a copy of which TMZ obtained in April. The document notes that there was a “transfer of property among spouses,” and sources told the outlet that Affleck gifted his half of the marital estate to Lopez—for free. Given the most recent listing price at $52 million, the exchange is worth roughly $26 million, with Lopez as the sole owner now on the deed. The news comes just weeks after Affleck sold his AI company, InterPositive, to Netflix for a reported $600 million.
