The Panthers are being tipped to re-sign the majority of their superstars before they hit free agency on November 1.

Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin, Moses Leota and Brian To’o are just some of the glut of Panthers talent who come off contract at the end of next season however, the club announced on Wednesday that hooker Mitch Kenny had re-signed a new four-year extension.

Earlier in the season, the belief was that Penrith could lose Yeo, Cleary or Martin, but the confidence inside the club has shifted.

“The Origin boys are the next targets. They want to work through Yeo, Cleary and Liam Martin now that Origin is over,” Code Sports’ Brent Read said on NRL360.

“Panthers are confident that he can convince these guys to stay. They know that they’re going to lose some.

“It’s going to turn heads, but the Panthers are quietly confident. They weren’t as confident two months ago, but it’s like the narrative there has changed that they’re going to get most of these guys done,” journalist Michael Carayannis added.

Former Panther Jarome Luai was the first player to sign with the expansion PNG Chiefs for the 2028 season, with the club being able to offer players contracts and third party deals tax free.

In fact, it was reported on Wednesday night’s NRL360 episode that Luai is set to command $3 million worth of third party deals through the Chiefs in addition to his tax free annual salary of $1.2 million.

The Chiefs are interested in adding Cleary and if given the chance, will throw the world at him. It’s likely he’ll command much more than his former teammate Luai.

Cleary has indicated he wants to go to market on November 1 and NRL360 host Braith Anasta thinks that if the Panthers aren’t able to lock their star halfback down, it’s going to be difficult for Cleary to resist whatever the Chiefs’ offer.

“Can you see Nathan going to market here? Because if he goes to market, I think it means he’ll leave,” Anasta said.

“He’ll get a minimum of $1.5 million a year tax free. Minimum. So my point is, if the Panthers can’t re-sign him before November 1, he’ll have all these offers who are way bigger.

“If he gets to November 1, I reckon he’s gone. Why would you go to market if you’re not going to leave?”

“PNG will throw so much money at him. He’ll be on more than God,” Read added.

While the Panthers will do everything in their power to keep Cleary and Yeo at the very least, there will be one or two casualties.

Winger Brian To’o has arguably been the game’s best flank during the Panthers’ dynasty but according to Read and Carayannis, he’s the most likely to depart the club at the end of his current contract.

“I think of all the players off contract at the end of next year, Brian To’o is at the longest odds to stay,” Carayannis revealed.

“I’m with Mick. I think Brian To’o is the logical one (to leave),” Read added.
