An AFL star is set to face court after being involved in a collision with a pedestrian.
Adelaide Crows defender Josh Worrell has been reported over the incident, which happened on Friday morning in Woodville as he was travelling to training.
The incident happened in Port Rd on the edge of Adelaide.
Worrell’s car collided with a 29-year-old male pedestrian, who suffered injuries in the incident.
The AFL star agreed to take the man to hospital following the incident, with both parties attending later that afternoon to report the collision but not in the timeframe required for Worrell to avoid charges.
“Following investigations, the 25-year-old driver was reported for aggravated driving without due care and failing to present to police within 90 minutes after a collision which resulted in injury,” a SAPol statement reads.
“He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.”
Despite the incident, Worrell went on to play the full game for the Crows in their 128-49 victory over Gold Coast at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
Speaking with the media on Tuesday, his coach Matthew Nicks said the club was continuing to support Worrell following the incident.
“It’s been a pretty challenging few days for Josh, he’s working through after his accident,” he told reporters this week.
“But we’re just doing whatever we can to support him through that.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Adelaide Football Cub said: “The Adelaide Football Club is aware of one of its players being reported by South Australia Police for aggravated driving without due care and failing to present to police within 90 minutes after a collision which resulted in injury.
“It follows the player being involved in a traffic accident last Friday morning.
“Given the matter is now subject to legal proceedings, the club is not in a position to provide any further detail.”
