Cory Joseph will continue his career with Olympiacos Piraeus for another season, according to BasketNews sources.
The Greek club and the veteran guard have finalized the decision on his future after Olympiacos recently extended the deadline to exercise its team option until July 15.
Joseph’s return was not linked to Thomas Walkup’s future, according to BasketNews sources.
Olympiacos decided to retain the Canadian guard regardless of whether Walkup stays or leaves the club.
Joseph is coming off a promising rookie EuroLeague campaign with Olympiacos, averaging 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and a 6.8 PIR in fewer than 16 minutes per game while shooting 55% from 2-point range and 34% from beyond the arc.
The veteran guard took on a bigger role during Olympiacos’ playoff series against Monaco, where he averaged 7.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and an 11.7 PIR in 18 minutes per game, shooting 57% from two and 43% from three.
Joseph also contributed in the EuroLeague championship game against Real Madrid, finishing with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 16 minutes as Olympiacos captured the title.
Joseph’s impact went well beyond the box score. According to BasketNews Advanced Stats, Olympiacos outscored opponents by 22.2 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor after he joined the club in late January, making him one of the team’s most impactful players during the second half of the season.
Joseph brought extensive NBA experience to Olympiacos after spending 14 seasons in the league.
The Canadian guard appeared in 909 regular-season games for seven franchises, won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, and owns career averages of 6.7 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.5 rebounds.
