The Spurs’ rookie big man and their No. 20th pick of this year’s NBA Draft will likely miss the start of the 2026-27 season, where the early expectation is that he won’t be ready to return until some point in 2027, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Jayden Quaintance has been touted as a highly talented big man, but unfortunately suffered injuries during his college career. He mainly suffered from a torn ACL injury back in 2024-25 during his freshman season at Arizona State.
The 19-year-old only appeared for four games last season in Kentucky amid persisting leg and knee issues, averaging 5.0 points in 57.1 percent shooting with five rebounds in 17 minutes.
The Spurs drafted Quaintance with the full understanding that the big man would still need more time to recover. While they can afford to wait for his full healing, it is still a huge and unfortunate development that the franchise can only embrace.
San Antonio can only hope that Quaintance will finally recover to kickstart his young NBA career as Victor Wembanyama’s future backup.
