Townsville City Council, Supercars provide details on Reid Park track resurfacing project

RESURFACING works on the Reid Park Street Circuit which hosts Supercars’ annual Townsville 500 event will begin next week.

The project will encompass 72.7 percent of the track, i.e. 2.08km of the 2.86km layout.

Works will begin on Monday July 20 and are due for completion this October, made possible by $6 million in state government funding provided via the Works for Queensland program.

Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto said on Monday that a spend now would prevent the need for a far more expensive overhaul down the track.

Supercars chairman and interim CEO Barclay Nettlefold threw his support behind the investment.

“The venue is one of the best maintained and presented racing circuits in the country, and has produced great racing and viewing for over two million fans since its debut in 2009,” he said.

“The continued venue maintenance plans will ensure the track is race ready to host top level motorsport for many years to come.”
