The Flyers are facing some new territory in 2026-27.
Not only has the NHL shifted to an 84-game schedule for every team, but the Flyers are also amid a much shorter offseason. Coming off a run to the second of the playoffs and with two more games this season, the Flyers’ summer break has been cut down by a month.
The club has 143 days between the end of last season and the start of this season. Last offseason, it had 174.
As we learned Wednesday, the Flyers open the 2026-27 campaign Wednesday, Sept. 30, when they welcome the Penguins to Xfinity Mobile Arena. It’ll be the earliest the Flyers have ever started the regular season.
To the delight of fans, the Flyers will be back in Philadelphia for Black Friday. Last season, they had a rare road game that day because the Eagles were hosting the Bears in the afternoon.
Here’s a breakdown of the 2026-27 schedule, which was released Thursday.
• The Flyers open the season at home for the first time since 2022-23. Last season, they started with consecutive road games.
• The Flyers have 12 back-to-back sets, with none in March or April.
• The Flyers go nine days without a game from Feb. 4-12, a stretch that coincides with the All-Star break.
• The Flyers’ longest stretch of consecutive home games is five from Jan. 21-30.
• The Flyers’ longest stretch of consecutive road games is five and it happens twice: Nov. 5-14 and Dec. 27-Jan. 4.
• The Flyers face each Metropolitan Division team four times.
Aside from the season opener, here are some fun and notable matchups:
• Oct. 3 — The Flyers host the defending champion Hurricanes for the first time since last season’s playoff exit against Carolina, a loss that came in the same building.
• Oct. 24 — This home game in the afternoon provides the next edition of the Flyers-Ducks budding rivalry, which added more juice this offseason.
• Nov. 15 — Connor McDavid’s annual trip to Philly with the Oilers is not a bad ticket.
• Nov. 27 — The always-popular Black Friday home matinee comes against the Canucks.
• Nov. 30 — Porter Martone and Gavin McKenna, two Calder Trophy candidates, could square off for the first time when the Flyers visit the Maple Leafs.
• Dec. 21 — The Flyers hold their holiday spectacular matchup when they welcome the Blue Jackets.
• March 2 — The Flyers didn’t face Carter Hart last season when he visited with the Golden Knights; maybe they’ll see him here for his next return?
• April 10 — Could the regular-season finale in Philly be the final game of Alex Ovechkin’s historic career?
Here is the Flyers’ full regular-season schedule, with start times in Eastern. The preseason schedule can be found here.
The broadcast schedule will be released at a later date.
