Stefanos Tsitsipas has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open Gstaad after overcoming Swiss wildcard Jerome Kym in a three-set contest.
The Greek prevailed 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-5) in one of the longest and most closely fought matches of the day, requiring a deciding-set tie-break after rain interrupted play.
Tsitsipas made the stronger start, claiming the opening set 6-4 by taking his chances in the key moments.
Kym responded in the second set, continuing to attack aggressively and keeping Tsitsipas under pressure. The Swiss player edged a tie-break to level the match and raise hopes of an upset in front of the home crowd.
Neither player was able to break clear in the deciding set, with the contest remaining on serve before rain forced a suspension of play.
When the match resumed, Tsitsipas held his nerve in the deciding tie-break, producing his best tennis under pressure to secure victory after more than two and a half hours on court.
The win sends the former world No. 3 into the quarter-finals as he continues his campaign in Gstaad.
