Shamed Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has admitted to getting behind the wheel while banned from driving.
Dennis, of Medindie, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified at a brief hearing at Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday.
It comes after he was handed a five-year driving ban and a suspended jail sentence following the tragic death of his wife Melissa Hoskins, who died after being struck by a car outside their home.
The two-time Olympian, who claimed a silver medal at the London 2012 games, arrived at court four hours before his scheduled appearance.
The charges related to an incident in June, when Dennis was pulled over while driving in Adelaide.
At the time of the arrest, police said that he had two children in the vehicle with him.
Originally scheduled for 2.15pm, the matter was called on early, with Dennis entering a guilty plea, charged with driving a vehicle while disqualified.
As he left the court, Dennis swerved questions from the media pack, before climbing into the back seat of a waiting Toyota and being driven away.
The 36-year-old remained silent as faced a volley of questions from waiting journalists.
It comes more than two years after the death of his fellow cyclist and wife Ms Hoskins, who died in December 2023.
In 2024, Dennis pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of creating likelihood of harm relating to the crash outside the pair’s home in Adelaide’s inner suburbs.
The tragedy occurred following an argument between the couple, with Ms Hoskins struck by a car driven by Dennis outside of the property.
He had initially been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving without due care – however, these charges were dropped by prosecutors.
He was handed a 17-month jail sentence following the prior case and banned from driving for five years. His sentence was suspended alongside a two-year good behaviour bond.
The judge in the earlier case, however, acknowledged that he was not responsible for his wife’s death.
Earlier this year, he further caused controversy when he posted a photograph of a Porsche on Instagram with a caption describing it as an “absolute weapon”.
He was arrested on June 11 after driving a car, which has since been impounded, in Adelaide.
The latest case was adjourned until September, when the charge of driving while disqualified will be dealt with in the state’s district court, alongside the breach of his bond.
Previously, he had been told that breaching his bond would likely result in a custodial sentence.
