While Chiefs Manawa started strong to hold a 19-14 lead after 23 minutes, a double to left wing Ayesha Leti-I’iga saw the hosts take the lead back and go on the charge and score three tries in the final 10 minutes of the half.
A second to right winger Wikitoria Viljoen pushed the lead further out early in the second half, before Chiefs Manawa fought back with a couple of tries as the Poua made several changes.
The hosts were forced to defend their line several times through the final quarter of the game, but held on to close out the win.
“It was good to get some good game time for everyone in the squad today, so that was cool,” co-captain Te Rauoriwa Gapper told Sky Sport.
“Good to be ready for hopefully another week and have a full 23 – we have a whole 30 that can come on at any time, but a little bit to work on there.”
