Australia is one of the countries where sustainability is more than just a concept; it is reflected in concrete actions. At the recent Hort Connections exhibition, REV Packaging Solutions’ P-Pack thermosealed packages and Puma netting machine attracted significant attention, having been adopted by Mitolo Family Farms, based in Virginia, South Australia.

“Through Propak Industries,” says Fabrizio Fiumana, CEO of REV Packaging Solutions, “we introduced a new monomaterial solution for onion packaging, developed, tested and validated in collaboration with Mitolo Family Farms. It has been designed to improve recyclability by eliminating the copper clip traditionally used in conventional onion net packaging.”

During Hort Connections, Isaac Sandercock of Propak Industries, REV’s official dealer for Australia and New Zealand, explained that the project was driven by a clear packaging challenge: simplifying the material structure of onion net packaging.

“The new package is a monomaterial net,” Fiumana explains. “Both the handle and the label are made from the same plastic material. Thanks to our solution, we have eliminated the metal clip.”

This trend in Australia has been building for some time. Last February, during Fruit Logistica, the REV Packaging Solutions team had already noticed growing interest in this type of solution. “In Berlin, we met entrepreneurs, customers and potential dealers from several countries. We strengthened our relationships with several Australian and New Zealand companies, meaning that our technologies will continue to be exported to Oceania. But that’s not all: interest in monomaterial packaging is also increasing across Northern Europe, as well as in France.”

He concludes: “Monomaterial packaging is an effective solution for the fresh produce sector, combining efficiency, practicality and environmental responsibility. With this in mind, P-Pack, produced by our Puma netting machine, is the result of extensive experience in thermosealing technology and years of testing.”
