The Freelander 8 has started appearing at authorised dealerships in several Chinese cities as Chery Jaguar Land Rover begins a nationwide preview campaign for its first Freelander-branded SUV. The dealer arrivals are running alongside a separate roadshow program covering 17 provinces and 30 cities across China.
Freelander announced on July 18 that the roadshow began from Aranya, with scheduled stops including Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. The initial route runs from July 12 to August 1, 2026, while additional stops will be announced separately.
At the same time, vehicles are arriving at selected authorised dealerships according to Toutiao.
Dealer displays begin ahead of launch
The parallel rollout gives the Freelander 8 two different public-facing channels before its official market launch. The roadshow vehicles will move between cities for short-term previews, while some dealerships are receiving fixed display units for longer-term customer viewing.
The available information does not provide a complete list of dealerships that have received permanent display vehicles. Pricing, production targets, and delivery schedules have also not been announced.
The Freelander 8 is the first model from the independent Freelander brand created through the Chery Jaguar Land Rover partnership. The vehicle will be produced within the Freelander joint venture manufacturing structure in China.
EREV platform delivers 221 km pure electric range
The Freelander 8 uses an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system consisting of a 1.5T range-extender engine producing 115 kW (154 hp) and a 60.331 kWh CATL Freevoy ternary NMC battery. The company lists a WLTC pure electric range of 221 km.
The SUV uses an 800V electrical architecture with a reported 6C charging capability and a peak charging input of 350 kW. Its chassis configuration includes three differential-lock functions, consisting of a front mechanical lock, rear electronic limited-slip differential, and virtual centre lock system, combined with a closed dual-chamber air suspension and Huawei-tuned i-ATS all-terrain management system.

Large-screen cabin revealed before deliveries
The Freelander 8 measures 5118 mm in length, 2050 mm in width, and 1898 mm in height, with a 3040 mm wheelbase. Some regulatory records list a longer length of 5185 mm, depending on the exterior equipment configuration.
The SUV uses a 2+2+2 six-seat layout and supports an optional towing package rated up to 2000 kg. Its gross vehicle weight is listed at 3495 kg.
Inside, the dashboard features a 46.3-inch panoramic display spanning 1.2 meters, with 8K resolution and 1000 nits peak brightness, paired with a 15.6-inch central control screen. The system uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8397 automotive processor.
Previous reports have listed different versions of Huawei’s autonomous driving system, including ADS 4.1 and ADS 5.0, and the exact production specifications require further confirmation.
The Freelander 8 is expected to enter the Chinese market in the second half of 2026. The current showroom arrivals provide customers with early access to view the vehicle, but do not represent the start of official deliveries.
