Eels legend Nathan Hindmarsh blasted the match review committee after Tigers young gun Latu Fainu was slapped with a two-game ban for a dangerous tackle in Saturday’s loss to the Bulldogs.

The Tigers were shut out 32-0 to continue their troubling slide down the ladder and to make matters worse, they are set to be without both Fainu and Adam Doueihi next week due to suspension.

Fainu is looking at a two-week stint on the sidelines for a dangerous tackle on Leo Thompson, where the Tigers playmaker went low and sent the Bulldogs front rower tumbling.

There was not much of a wrapping action from Fainu, but Hindmarsh said the ban was sending the wrong message to young rugby league players.

“Appeal it. This is ridiculous. What is the rule? Has he not wrapped?” Hindmarsh said on ‘Sunday Night with Matty Johns’.

When informed Fainu was deemed to have put Thompson in a dangerous position, Hindmarsh did not hold back.

“That’s bulls***. You know what to do? If you’re carrying the ball, learn to bump or do something,” he added.

“I thought there was nothing wrong with that and to get two weeks for that? That is a joke. Absolute joke.

“We’re teaching our kids to go low and tackle like that. Obviously the wrapping motion helps but that’s how we’re teaching our kids. A smaller guy on a bigger guy?

“Go low, wrap him up — done. And he’s getting two weeks for that just because he’s fallen over him.”

The Tigers can fight the charge but Fainu faces a three-game suspension if he is unsuccessful at the judiciary.

It is the latest blow for the struggling Tigers, who will likely also be without Doueihi after he was hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge and is looking at a one-game ban.

The only good news to come out of Saturday’s loss was that star forward Alex Twal is only facing a fine for his late run-in with Jaeman Salmon.
