Mick Jagger, Donald and Melania Trump, Pharrell, Robbie Williams and… wait for it — Lauren Phillips — were among the star cameos as TV cameras panned the cavalcade of celebs attending the World Cup final.
The Nova brekkie co-host was seen chatting animatedly to Oscar winning actor Adrian Brody with her fiance Paul O’Brien nearby as the commentators took in the star attendees during the first half’s hydration break.
They were standing in the VIP area with their good friend, Hollywood star Matt Damon and his Argentina-born wife Luciana Barroso, for what was the hottest ticket in the world at the packed out stadium in New Jersey.
Phillips is fresh from a stint in Europe where she attended the Odyssey world premiere in London and rubbed shoulders with Zendaya and Charlize Theron as guests of lead actor Damon.
It appears she has made a fly in dash to the US after returning back to Australia for her radio commitments, to see the highly anticipated World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
It doesn’t hurt when your soon the be husband is the owner of a luxury private jet charter company AVMIN used by the likes of Chris Hemsworth and Damon.
Other Aussies who might not have been so lucky to be in the stands were the Inspired Unemployed’s Jack Steele and Matt Ford, whose flight to New York to attend the game was cancelled at the 11th hour leaving them stranded in Chicago.
“Wait your whole life to go to a World Cup and just as you are about to touch down your plane gets turned around and diverts,” said a gutted Steele.
In a scene straight from Trains, Planes and Automobiles – or expensive Ubers in their case – the duo set out on an epic long haul US transit to Baltimore followed by a three hour Uber and more to try and make it to the stadium in time for kick off.
Fingers crossed.
