AFL legend Tony Modra has shared a heartwarming update on his road to recovery from his near fatal truck crash.
The former Adelaide Crows star was left in a critical condition last month when a tree branch came crashing through the windscreen of his truck near Victor Harbor.
Many feared the two-time all-Australian AFL star may not pull through after he suffered catastrophic injuries in the crash, ending up in intensive care.
However, in an update AFL fans nationwide would have been desperate for, the 57-year-old shared a photograph of him looking healthy and well alongside his family.
In a touching Instagram post, Modra described his gratitude for the care he received and the many well wishes along the way.
The footy star heaped praise on SA Ambulance Service, South Coast District Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre.
“Saved my life, put me back together with a few titanium plates, got me home,” he wrote.
“I’m getting out and about a bit now, and slowly catching up on everything I missed over the last month.
“I’m so humbled to learn how many people were cheering these incredible medical teams on … and our family too.
“I’ll never be able to thank everyone enough.”
The shocking incident happened on June 18, during a spell of severe weather.
Described as a “freak accident” it saw Modra’s truck impaled by a fallen tree branch.
He left hospital earlier this month, after undergoing facial surgery.
In his illustrious career, he made 118 appearances for the Crows and 47 for Freemantle.
He was Adelaide’s leading goal-kicker for five straight seasons and played State of Origin football.
