Government agencies using artificial intelligence to automate processes and augment decision-making need sufficient, competent oversight of how they delegate trust to software, including agentic AI, or risk losing public confidence in institutions.
That’s the short and sharp take-away from a landmark speech delivered by the Digital Transformation Agency’s deputy chief executive for strategy, planning and performance, Lucy Poole, in one of the biggest wake-up calls to the public sector.
The speech, delivered to the oversight and audit community, warned that the very nature of assurance is changing and that auditors need to be on top of major shifts unleashed by AI.
