Laurie Daley has backed rugby league legend Andrew Johns for the Blues’ head coaching role if the eighth immortal ever wanted the job.

Daley is expected to stand down as Blues coach following a two-year stint at the helm, culminating in a famous decider win at Suncorp Stadium a fortnight ago.

Speaking on Freddy and the Eighth, Daley said he’ll reveal what his future holds in the coming weeks.

“I think I just wanna let it all settle in and settle down and let the players enjoy what they’ve been able to achieve,” Daley said.

“A decision will come in the coming weeks, but I’m certainly happy with the decision I’ve made and what happens next.”

Johns has been loosely linked to the Blues job alongside his brother Matt, but Johns has so far shut down any speculation.

“I haven’t got the personality to do it and I’ve got no experience,” Johns said.

Daley disagreed though.

The Blues legend and two-time series winning NSW coach has faith that Johns would have success if he ever held the top job, with Daley pointing to Johns’ passion of the game and the jersey.

“The one thing I love about Joey is he’s passionate,” Daley said.

“Even throughout the series we would speak and he’d send me clips and when you’ve got someone like Andrew Johns showing you stuff, you take it on board.

“You’d be able to do it easily if you had the right people around you.

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who could do it, but a lot of people don’t understand the scrutiny that comes with a position like that.”

DOGS STAR DEFENDS HIMSELF AFTER ONLINE VITRIOL

Bulldogs forward Jaeman Salmon has defended himself following his run-in with Tigers star Alex Twal on Saturday night.

Twal was sin binned for an open handed shove to Salmon’s face late in the second half of the Tigers’ 32-0 loss to the Bulldogs.

Salmon and Twal went toe-to-toe after Salmon rushed in and shoved Twal following an incident between the Tigers lock and Bulldogs forward Lipoi Hopoi.

Salmon has been accused of riling Twal and other Tigers players up throughout the game, but he denied this, revealing to the SMH he has since copped abusive messages from Tigers fans on social media.

“I don’t think I’m known for being a niggler or a grub. If anyone ever mentions my name, ‘grub’ or ‘niggler’ never gets associated with it. All of a sudden, I’m a grub and niggler after this one altercation,” Salmon said.

“You can’t win in this situation. If I fire back, I get sin-binned, and if I milk it, I’m a coward. You’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

“Tensions were high. I’m a competitor, and Twally is a competitor.

“All I’ve heard about Twally is he’s a great lad.

“It’s blown up a bit, it’s crazy… They’re passionate fans. Nobody likes seeing their team beaten. There are too many explicit words for me to say in the paper.”
