“This is not an applicant tracking system or recruitment system, it’s a hiring assessment tool,” he told the news outlet.

“We don’t ask people to provide a CV, that’s the first bit. It’s a blind tool, so it doesn’t talk to the hiring managers and the recruiters about their age, their gender, their background, etc.”

According to Gray, the tool is of “tremendous value” to the discount chain.

“We’ve probably saved $5m to $6m over the last three years, but secondly, it’s actually improved our relationship with candidates and candidate experience, and all those candidates are customers at the end of the day,” Gray added.

It also cut the hiring time at the firm from 44 days to 11.8 days, and allowed the company to assess all the job applications it receives, which is about 600,000 a year.
