Lucas was left “almost inconsolable” after the star second rower suffered a dislocated and suspected fractured left ankle while Brown was taken off with a knee injury.
The club is hopeful Brown did not tear his ACL, however he will undergo scans on Saturday to determine the full extent of the injury.
It is the same knee that Brown injured in Newcastle’s Round 2 win over the Sea Eagles, which was later determined to be a grade 2 MCL strain.
As for Lucas, he had been enjoying a breakout 2026 season, having already established himself as one of the league’s up-and-coming edge forwards before being rewarded for his strong form with a State of Origin debut.
The NSW Blues representative was shaping as a key attacking weapon for Newcastle in the finals, but instead the Knights are set to be without Lucas for the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old was taken from the field on a stretcher after landing awkwardly in a tackle in the first half.
“It was bent in a way that it should not have been bent. This is terrible,” Dan Ginnane said on Fox League.
“He is almost inconsolable.”

Lucas was placed onto a stretcher and taken off on a medicab while giving the Newcastle crowd a ‘shaka’ to let them know he was in good spirits despite the setback.
Unfortunately in a later update, Fox League’s sideline reporter Jake Duke confirmed Lucas had been taken to hospital and that the Knights’ early diagnosis was a dislocated and suspected fractured left ankle.
Should that be confirmed, it would be the end of a sensational season for Lucas, who had scored 10 tries in 15 games for the Knights.
“It was obviously terrible to see,” Newcastle teammate Fletcher Sharpe told Fox League at halftime.
“You never want to see one of your own go down like that.”
Thomas Cant filled in for Lucas but Jermaine McEwen is scheduled to return next week from a hamstring injury in welcome news for the Knights.
