In his fifth season in Philly, Schwarber has made himself an indispensable piece of the puzzle for the team as both a left fielder and a designated hitter. He’s one of the best sluggers in baseball, and he’s on a tear through the National League as one of the most potent offensive weapons in baseball right now. Where did Kyle Schwarber play baseball in college?

A native of Ohio, Schwarber was a two-sport athlete in high school before settling on baseball as his career pursuit. He attended Indiana University, playing baseball for the Hoosiers and earning All-American honors as a freshman and beyond. His talents, particularly his powerful swing and potential as a batter, made him a top prospect in the 2014 MLB Draft, and he was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Cubs.

What other MLB teams has Kyle Schwarber played for besides the Phillies?

Schwarber was called up from the minors and made his Cubs debut in the summer of 2015, quickly establishing himself as a force both in the outfield and as the designated hitter. In 2016, he collided with another player in the outfield after just two games and missed the rest of the season with a major knee injury, but still collected a World Series championship ring as a member of the team through their stunning 2016 playoff run. 

In his 2017 return, Schwarber struggled, but began training to get in the best shape of his baseball life. While he struggled with his batting average and with fielding errors, his raw talent was still on full display. He left the Cubs after the 2020 season. 

In 2021, Schwarber bounced around a little bit, signing first with the Washington Nationals before he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. He chose free agency at the end of the season, and in the spring of 2022, signed with the Phillies.

Schwarber’s career in Philly so far

In Philadelphia, Schwarber set the tone right away with a home run in his first-ever at-bat for the Phillies, and he’s been progressing as a player ever since. As a member of the Phillies, Schwarber has led the National League in home runs twice, in 2022 and 2025, and he’s on track to claim that title again in 2026. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2022, and his 2025 season also included the MLB RBI crown, batting in a career-high 132 runs. He’s been named an All-Star four times in his career, including in three of his five seasons with the Phillies so far.
