The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed goaltender Cam Johnson to a one-year American Hockey League contract for the 2026-27 season on Friday.
Johnson, 32, is one of the top goaltenders in the ECHL and has led the Florida Everblades to four of the past five Kelly Cup championships.
Last season, the left-handed Johnson appeared in 49 regular season games and posted a 31-9-9 record, a 1.84 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and three shutouts. Those figures allowed him to claim the Nick Vitucci Award as the ECHL’s top goaltender.
In the postseason, Johnson played in 20 games and had a 16-4 record, a 1.88 goals against average, a .923 save percentage and three shutouts while leading the Everblades to a championship. Individually, Johnson claimed the June M. Kelly Award as postseason MVP.
Barring injuries or other absences to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ goaltenders under NHL contract, Johnson will likely be assigned to the Everblades, the Penguins’ new ECHL affiliate.
The undrafted Johnson is entering his 10th professional season. In 2016, he attended the Pittsburgh Penguins prospect development camp as an invitee.
