Christian Gonzalez offered highest cornerback contract in NFL history, Kraft says
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft told reporters on Saturday that the team has offered cornerback Christian Gonzalez a record-breaking contract.
“We love Christian Gonzalez. We love him as a player, as a person, you know that’s why we’ve made an offer to him that makes him the highest-paid player to ever play that position in the NFL and coincidentally, it’s the highest contract in the Patriots franchise history,” Kraft said. “So, um, we’re, we’re glad we drafted him, and he’s developed here and we hope he’ll be with us for a long time.”
It is unclear if Gonzalez has agreed to the contract yet. The 23-year-old is eligible for an extension on his rookie contract, with the Patriots picking up his fifth-year option earlier this offseason.

Rams cornerback Trent McDuffie is currently the NFL’s highest paid cornerback with a salary averaging $31 million per year. The Indianapolis Colts’ Sauce Gardner and Houston Texans’ Derek Stingley Jr. round out the top three, with contracts valued at more than $30 million per year.
“Those contract negotiations are ongoing between the club and his agents,” head coach Mike Vrabel said. “I’m excited about having Christian back here with us and the impact he can make on our football team. Really enjoy the person, enjoy the player and that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
Gonzalez was drafted No. 17 overall in the 2023 draft out of Oregon University.
He is entering his fourth season with the team, coming off a year where he was selected to the Pro Bowl.
Gonzalez was a full participant in the first day of training camp on Saturday.
