Perth will host two of the three upcoming AFL Origin games over the next three years following a successful return of the state-based rivalry at Optus Stadium earlier this year.
The State of Origin will be returning for at least another three years with the AFL announcing the host states for the upcoming pre-seasons.
Perth will be hosting the next match in February 2027 that will see WA go up against South Australia.
In 2028, the competition will travel to Adelaide, where South Australia and Victoria will go head-to-head for the first time since 1999.
Glen Jakovich for Western Australia looks to pass during the 1996 AFL State of Origin match between South Australia and Western Australia.
The third and final confirmed match returns to Perth in 2029, with WA out for revenge against Victoria after February’s 24-point loss.
The State of Origin concept returned to the AFL in 2026 following a 27-year break, with the hiatus mainly due to clubs wanting to prioritise the premiership season.
But its return proved a success, with a crowd of 58,141 packing Optus Stadium to watch Victoria down WA.
Premier Roger Cook said hosting the 2027 and 2029 AFL Origin against South Australia and Victoria is a significant boost for WA’s local tourism industry and businesses.
“Western Australia has proven the natural home of AFL Origin after hosting the successful return this year against Victoria, drawing thousands of interstate visitors and millions of viewers from across the country,” he said.
“Western Australia cannot wait to host South Australia next year at Optus Stadium, in what will be the 50th anniversary of the first Origin match played in the State.”
