On 29 and 3l March 2026, The Advertiser and the Sunday Mail published articles about recent surgeries at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital performed by Associate Professor Amal Abou-Hamden.

Those articles wrongly suggested that the care provided by Associate Professor Abou-Hamden fell short of expected standards and caused harm to the relevant patients.

Dr Abou-Hamden is co-operating fully with the review and intends to rely on independent expert medical reports which demonstrate she met the expected standard of care.

We acknowledge that Dr Abou-Hamden is a well-respected neurosurgeon and professional in the medical field.

The hospital’s review has not been finalised, and no adverse findings have been made against Dr Abou-Hamden.

We apologise to Dr Abou-Hamden for the distress and embarrassment caused by the publications.
