From investors to conspiracy theorists and AI hype merchants, the Blackbird-backed startup known for its ‘cowgorithms’ has attracted extraordinary levels of attention.

In a relatively short space of time, AI-powered cow collar startup Halter has drawn an unusually wide range of attention, from an unusually wide range of places.
Hailing from New Zealand, the company has enjoyed a reasonably high profile in startup circles for a while now, but it shot to major prominence in the financial media in March this year when it raised $315 million at a $2.9 billion valuation.
But that deal also strangely resulted in the company becoming a target for both conspiracy theorists, who are convinced there is something nefarious about its cow tracking collars, and AI-hype merchants who think that same technology could revolutionise agriculture.
Either way, it’s a big leap for a product designed to stop farmers spending hours putting up temporary fences.
