ESC Kompakt reports that the German public broadcaster SWR will hold songwriting camps to support its national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
SWR is set to organise songwriting camps to support its selection show for Bulgaria, Das Deutsche Finale 2027. In information seen by ESC Kompakt, SWR has stated to artists that it is organising its own songwriting camps for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027.
The songwriting camps are open to interested artists until August 10, but is not a mandatory part of being able to take part in the German selection process. The rules of the songwriting camps state that songs created in the selection may only be used for the German selection and cannot be submitted to other national selection processes.
The application window for Das Deutsche Finale 2027 has been open since July 15. The applications will beassessed by the newly assembled “ESC Music Team”. The team consists of:
Jules Kalmbacher (music producer, songwriter, member of German jury for Eurovision 2026)
Pele Loriano (songwriter, Eurovision strategy consultant, producer for “The Code” (Eurovision 2024 winning entry) and “Wasted Love” (Eurovision 2025 winning entry))
Florian Müller (Artists & Repertoire publisher)
Celina Spanier (independent music manager)
Lilly Behling (artist and label manager)
The rules for applications are as follows:
Participants must be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2027.
Participants must have a strong connection to Germany (eg. German citizenship, residency in Germany, fluency in German, being of German descent).
For logistical reasons, participants must be resident in Germany or a neighbouring country.
Participants may apply to other national selections, provided that they inform SWR. If they are selected for Das Deutsche Finale 2027, then they must withdraw from any other selection they are participating in.
Songs must not have been publicly performed or released before September 1, 2026 and must not exceed three minutes.
Songs can be in any language.
Songs created using AI are not allowed.
The closing date for applications is September 21, 2026 at 12:00 CEST.
The exact format and date of Das Deutsche Finale 2027 will be revealed at a later date. The winner will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria.
Sarah Engels represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with “Fire”. She placed 23rd in the final, receiving 12 points, all of which came from the jury.

Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest+
Germany was one of seven countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. The country has taken part in every contest since then, apart from in 1996, when they failed to make it through the qualifying round. To date Germany has won the contest twice. The first time was in 1982 when Nicole sang “Ein Bisschen Frieden” in Harrogate, which later became a global hit. Germany didn’t win again until 2010 when Lena sang “Satellite” in Oslo. She received 9 sets of 12 points, scoring 246 points overall.
