WANNEROO Raceway has been the scene of some stark highs and lows for Erebus Motorsport in the Gen3 Supercars era.
It’s why this weekend’s Perth Super440 should offer an interesting insight into the level of in-season progress made by Barry Ryan’s 2026-spec team.
Townsville provided some light at the end of the tunnel for Erebus after a forgettable opening six rounds, with both Cooper Murray and Jobe Stewart showing signs of competitiveness.
Whether or not that was track-specific, we’re about to find out given Erebus’ recent history in Western Australia.
In 2023, its Coca-Cola Camaros absolute shone.
A hat-trick of podiums powered Brodie Kostecki to the round win, while Will Brown took a race win en route to accumulating the second-most points from the round.
Between them, they scored exactly 500 points across the weekend, while Kostecki also proved himself a rare adversary genuinely capable of going toe-to-toe in race craft with the wizardry of Shane van Gisbergen.
The tale couldn’t have been any more different for Erebus in its past two visits to Perth, however.
It was one of the low points in a troubled first half of 2024, with drivers Kostecki and Jack Le Brocq last and second-last on round points as speed and reliability vanished.
‘JLB’ was forced to start a race from the pitlane due to a battery issue, while Kostecki suffered an engine-related DNF – a fate which then befell his replacement Murray last year.
In 2025, Le Brocq was 16th on round points with Murray 25th and last.
Across the past two trips west, Erebus has tallied a total of just 243 points – less than half of what it did in 2023 alone.
It has not recorded a race result of better than 15th in that span, compared to five podiums in three races at the 2023 edition.
If Erebus can be near the top 10 this weekend, consider it an indication that the rebuilding team really is gathering some steady momentum as its beloved Bathurst 1000 event draws closer.
