A huge first-round knockout has shaken the Commonwealth Games as a young boxer was sent flying through the ropes from a devastating combination.
On Wednesday, Wales star Orlando Holley-Sotomi, 22, produced a concussive right hand followed by a left hook, with Lesotho opponent Refiloe Thai collapsing in a heap.

The 70kg quarter-final was immediately waved off by the referee as the doctor sprang into action to check on the 21-year-old.

According to The Sun, Thai is “OK after the knockout, but devastated by the defeat”.
Some boxing fans have taken issue with the knockout for two reasons.
Firstly, several viewers feel Holley-Sotomi’s left hand was holding Thai — whose eyes were covered.
Reacting to the KO, Full House Sport said: ”I think that’s poor reffing. Welsh lad has held his arm out, can’t do that. Although the Lesotho lad hasn’t helped his own case.”
While boxing fan SMD added: “The guy in blue was covering the other guy’s eyes while hooking his other arm, dirty punch, judges should disqualify.”
And Brian said: “Cheating with the forearm, blinded him so didn’t see the punch coming. S**t reffing.”
Questions were also raised about the lack of headguards in the wake of the devastating KO.
Since 2014, a rule change has meant boxers at the Commonwealth Games do not wear headguards for protection.
Fight fanatic Richard Boadella said: “Really surprised there are no headguards being used. Must be loads of mismatches in the early rounds of the competition.”
Dan Wilson reacted: “Maybe I’m boring but I hate seeing amateur boxing with no headguards.”
And Tommochat replied: “Where are the headguards??”
But others were impressed by the knockout, with Boxing Muel saying: “Some shot, that,” while Tokkeru responded: “BRUTAL KO.”
Holley-Sotomi revealed in his post-fight interview that he had worked on the finish.
He said: “I watched tape of him and I knew he was open to the backhand, so I just invited him in and used it. He was open to it, so I used it.
“But I had to show class. My corner were saying to calm down, but it is quite hard because the adrenaline is going, there’s just so much going on.
