YOUNG basketballers on the Surf Coast will have the chance to train under coaches from two National Basketball Association (NBA) organisations when Torquay Coast Basketball Club hosts its player development camp in August.
Los Angeles Clippers development coach Chris Holguin and South Bay Lakers assistant coach Liam Flynn will lead the camp, working with players aged 12 to 15 across two sessions.
Limited to 24 participants, the camp aims to give young athletes first-hand exposure to the coaching methods and standards used in professional basketball.
“Our mission at Torquay Coast Basketball Club is to show our young athletes that their potential has no ceiling,” club president Peter Withers said.
“Bringing coaches of Chris and Liam’s calibre to Torquay gives our players a rare, hands-on look at what it takes to succeed at the highest level.
“It’s about building confidence, sharpening skills and strengthening the foundation of our entire basketball community.”
Torquay Coast coaches will also take part in the sessions, learning drills, communication techniques and player development strategies from the visiting coaches.
“We are hopeful this becomes an annual fixture on our club calendar,” Withers said.
“Our team is already working hard behind the scenes on additional player and coach development opportunities moving forward.”
The first session will be held on Friday 21 August, with a second on Saturday 22 August.
