Wiebes takes the first yellow jersey of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in unusual and slightly sketchy finale.
No one was quite sure how the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift would turn out, and crucially, whether the fast finishers might get a chance in what is a sprint-light Tour. However, Lorena Wiebes can never be written off, and despite the 2.6-kilometre climb to the finish, the Dutch superstar sprinter took victory and the first yellow jersey of the race.
It was an up-and-down opening day in Switzerland, in more ways than one, with high nerves meaning crashes were inevitable. Those who survived unscathed and stayed close to the front kept attacking into the final kilometre, where Demi Vollering made the last all-out attempt to drop Wiebes. However, Wiebes clawed her way back up to the head of the race and launched her sprint with 200 metres to go. Kim Le Court-Pienaar finished second and Vollering third.
After tenth-finisher Marlen Reusser – who’d had a chase on her hands after a crash on the descent about 21 km out – a few gaps opened up. Anna van der Breggen crossed the line in a group eight seconds down that also contained Paula Blasi, Antonia Niedermaier and Isabella Holmgren, while outside contender Dominika Włodarczyk finished 37 seconds down after getting caught up in the crash just outside the flamme rouge.
