AARON Love’s pole position for the Sunday Dunlop Series race in Perth set a new Super2 record and, in doing so, wiped an interesting car from the series’ record books.
Love pipped Tickford Autosport’s Reuben Goodall to pole position by just 0.0006-seconds, breaking Andrew Jones’ record for the closest Super2 pole-winning margin in the series’ history.
Jones had pipped another Tickford (then known as Prodrive Racing Australia) driver Jack Le Brocq in 2016, also at Wanneroo, by just 0.0013-seconds.
Jones was at the wheel of Brad Jones Racing’s BJR 004 VF Commodore chassis to set that pole position, his fourth and final Super2 pole and first pole in the series since his 2004 title-winning season.
While it may now be wiped from the Super2 pole-winning margin list in the series’ record books, it still holds a special place in the history of the Repco Supercars Championship as the winner of the only race held on ANZAC Day.
Jason Bright drove 004 to victory in Team BOC colours on ANZAC Day in 2014 and led home Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen.
The car replaced the sister chassis that Bright spectacularly rolled at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in the season-opener.
BJR 004 was turned from chassis to completed race car in just 10 days and spent multiple years as part of the team’s racing fleet.
It last appeared on track in Super2 in Tim Blanchard’s hands in 2019 in Townsville carrying Petronas colours.
