WHILE his teammate was back up the front fighting for wins, Will Brown spent the Perth Super440 languishing in the midfield.

Brown qualified 12th, 12th and 19th for the three races at Wanneroo for respective finishes of 12th, fifth and 17th – his run in the latter affected by a 15-second penalty for first-lap contact with Rylan Gray.

After finding his feet on one-lap performance for a period that included the second half of Albert Park plus both New Zealand rounds, Brown has come off the boil again in that facet.

He has just one top-five start in the past 15 races, and no top-three starts in that time. No podiums either.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do before Queensland Raceway. Don’t feel like we were there this weekend on straight-line speed, or set-up, or you know I felt like I was not maximising it at all on any occasion as well,” reacted the #888 driver.

“So we’ve got work to do, we’ve got to regroup heading to Ipswich which has been a happy hunting ground for us.

“I’m just going to be in the workshop with the boys, working with the boys at this, learning and improving on what we’ve got and building to where we need to be.

“Queensland Raceway is the last round in the Sprint Cup so we need to be better going into enduros and the finals, need the results to make sure we’re in this thing and fighting where we have in the past and know where we should be. Lots of work to do.”

Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton dubbed it “a work in progress” to get the 2024 champion back to the front.

“He is a very capable driver when we give him the machinery,” said Dutton.

“So we’ll be going to town on that car between now and QR just to really find if there is a gremlin or if there is something else causing a lack of pace there, because we’re confident that if we give him the right machine that he’ll be up the front.”

The Ipswich Super440 is a home round for four teams including Triple Eight and will take place across August 21-23.
