The truth behind Kyle Sandilands’ exit from Australian Idol has been revealed by a TV insider.
Sandilands stunned fans when he revealed that he was walking away from Australian Idol, saying he is stepping down “for the good of the brand” amid an activist campaign targeting the show’s advertisers.
Following his decision to quit, it was revealed that Seven’s head of unscripted content Majella Hay reportedly wanted Sandilands to stay, but that her proposal was knocked back by her superiors.
“Kyle is a one-off individual talent. I won’t say we are looking for a replacement, because no one can replace Kyle,” Hay told theDaily Telegraph.
“But we are now looking for a new judge who brings their own unique energy to Australian Idol.”
A source close to production shared that it’s going to be “hard” for the network to find a suitable replacement for the controversial star.
“He was amazing when he came back. He was standing on desks, doing selfies down with the crowd,” a production source said.
“It’s going to be hard to replace him with someone with enough controversy,” one insider said.
“If they bring in Guy Sebastian or something, the panel will be too nice.”
The shock jock’s decision to quit the Channel Seven staple was revealed last week, claiming it was due to fears over a campaign from activist group Mad F**king Witches.
“Those activists have attacked the potential clients for Australian Idol or the clients from last year, and has caused a problem in Channel Seven’s sales team,” he told media.
“So I’ve told Channel Seven this morning … that I’m standing down from Idol for the good of the brand to continue.”
Sandilands, 55, has had two stints hosting Australian Idol.
The first lasted from 2005-2009 and he returned in 2022 alongside Meghan Trainor and Amy Shark.
The radio host’s $100m contract was terminated in March after he said Jackie O was “off with the fairies” and “unfocused”.
Sandilands ended up settling the case for more than $12m and has since told his side of the tale in a tell-all documentary series.
The Aussie celebrity has had his fair share of emotional upheaval over the last twelve months.
He recently revealed his shock brain aneurysm diagnosis in 2025 while speaking on The Debrief podcast.
Sandilands said doctors were unable to operate on the aneurysm as it is located in a difficult position behind his eye.
