Dakota Johnson is hung up on her “weird” friendship with Madonna, who once had a crush on her stepfather, Antonio Banderas.
“I really love her,” the 50 Shades of Grey actress, 35, toldE! News in an interview published on Tuesday, August 19. “We’ve been, like, weird friends for a while.”
Dakota explained that she met Madonna, 67, when she was “really young, because she did a movie with my stepfather.”
Despite their age gap, Dakota and the queen of pop reunited years later when they were planning a project that never came to fruition.
“We’ve always kind of circled each other,” the Madame Web star continued to the outlet. “But she is like an energy to be near that is so beautiful and so wild. It’s just cool that she even wants to talk to me.”
Madonna and Dakota’s stepfather, Antonio, 65, starred in the 1996 film Evita. That year, Antonio divorced his first wife, Ana Leza, whom he married in 1987. Later that year, he married Dakota’s mother, Melanie Griffith. The former couple, who share daughter Stella Banderas, separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce the following year.
That said, the “Material Girl” singer and The Mask of Zorro star first collaborated in 1991, when Madonna revealed she had a crush on him in her documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare. However, Antonio wasn’t aware that he was mentioned in the documentary until after it was filmed.
“I thought someone was just making a joke at me,” the Uncharted actor said during a December 2019 appearance on the “The Jess Cagle Show.” “Because I picked up my phone in my hotel room and it was Madonna. I couldn’t believe it.”
“She said, ‘Listen, I want to show you this documentary that you are in,’” he continued. “And I said, ‘What? What documentary? What are you talking about?’”
Needless to say, Antonio gave Madonna the green light to include his excerpt in the documentary.
