Updoc patients have been notified their personal information may have been accessed in a security breach.
The website is used for 24/7 telehealth services across Australia.
Customers were advised there was a “brief period of unauthorised access to a third party system” where hackers had access to names, email and postal addresses on July 31.
“Our own systems were not accessed and no health information, financial information or payment details were involved,” a spokesman told customers.
“We took immediate actions to block the unauthorised access and can confirm there was no evidence of access after the initial event.”
The Updoc security team advised customers they did not need to take any immediate action, and their login and account security remained unaffected by the security breach.
“You should always remain aware of any unexpected emails or letters about your account,” customers were told
“You should treat these with caution and forward anything suspicious to us. We will never ask for a password via email.”
Updoc has been contacted for comment.
An Updoc spokesman said Updoc’s own systems were not accessed and no health information, financial information or payment details were involved in the security breach.
“Updoc took immediate actions to block the unauthorised access and there has been no evidence of access after the initial event,” a spokesman said.
“Updoc apologises to its customers for any concern or inconvenience this event has caused.”
The breach occurred just weeks after a major cyber attack struck Partnered Health, one of Australia’s biggest clinic networks.
Hackers stole personal information and health records from some clinics in its network in June 23.
“Our investigations to date have confirmed that personal information, including health information, was taken from some of the clinics in our network,” a Partnered Health spokesman said.
“We are continuing to investigate and we are communicating with patients from impacted clinics.”
The company listed 16 clinics across Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Coffs Harbour where patient information may have been stolen.
Another five clinics, including some in Western Australia, remained under investigation.
