The leaders will meet in Canberra on Tuesday to “discuss opportunities to deepen co-operation”, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
“The Vietnam-Australia relationship is grounded in deep strategic trust, mutual interests and a shared ambition for the future of our region,” Albanese said.
“Our two nations share deep cultural ties, and around 350,000 Australians have Vietnamese heritage.”
In March 2024, Australia and Vietnam signed an agreement to co-operate on defence, national security, education, energy, innovation, digital transformation and economic engagement.
Vietnam signed dozens of economic agreements with China last year, the country’s largest trading partner, including deals on supply chains, artificial intelligence and railway co-operation.
