A US court has court blocked further construction of Donald Trump’s new White House ballroom, ruling that the massive project must first receive Congressional approval.
“We are aware of no instance in American history in which a President … demolished substantial portions of the White House that Congress authorised to be built and American taxpayers paid for. Until now,” wrote judges Patricia Millet and Bradley Garcia.
A furious Mr Trump reacted by claiming it was a “horrendous, politically motivated” decision to bar work on what he is now calling a “military centre”.
The US economy unexpectedly lost 23,000 jobs in July. That’s despite analysts expecting that more than 80,000 new roles would be added.
But the White House has insisted the “Trump industrial resurgence is on schedule” as construction jobs have risen.
Iran’s parliament is reviewing a plan to ban US and Israeli ships, as well as vessels from other “hostile countries,” from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The ban would go into effect until the Islamic Republic is compensated for war damage, according to Iranian state media.
