DESIGN guru Scott Campbell will step up to oversee Team 18’s first Supercars wildcard program revolving around drivers Bayley Hall and Craig Lowndes.

Campbell has been around the scene for more than a decade, previously working for Garry Rogers Motorsport and Supercars itself before joining Team 18 last year.

Beyond Campbell as team principal, others in key roles on the Supercheap Auto Camaro include team manager Dennis Huijser – who only recently parted ways with the Blanchard Racing Team – and race engineer Richard Hollway.

The #15 Chevrolet will partake in each of the next three rounds, with Hall to debut in a solo capacity at the Ipswich Super440 before pairing up with Lowndes for The Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000.

The car visited The Bend yesterday for an all-important test.

“It was a productive first day and the first time we’ve all worked together as a group,” said former Triple Eight legend Lowndes.

“Everyone found their position within the team, and the connection and synergy across the crew worked extremely well.

“Bayley did a great job. We had a few electrical issues with the car that the team worked through during the day, so he didn’t get all the running we had planned. Despite that, his first run on a brand-new set of Dunlop tyres at the end of the day was impressive.

“He came to grips with the car and understood what he needed from it very quickly, which is a great sign leading into Queensland Raceway.”

Hall, who has also been the standout rookie in Super2, said: “It was great to finally get behind the wheel of the Supercheap Auto Racing Chevrolet Camaro.

“The (Bend’s) West Circuit is very different, but it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the day.

“We had a few electrical issues that interrupted our running, but the team worked hard to resolve them and we still achieved some important things.

“Once we fitted new tyres at the end of the day, I was able to get a proper feel for the car and gain a better understanding of what it needs.

“Now we turn our attention to Queensland Raceway and my solo wildcard entry. I’m finally going to make my Supercars main game debut, so I’m really keen to get there, push hard and see what we can achieve before we look ahead to the Enduro Cup.”
