Playing styles and prediction

It was a decent season for Fils who reached back-to-back Masters 1000 semi-finals in Miami and Madrid as well as winning the Barcelona title. However, an injury in Rome prevented the Frenchman from once again competing at his home Grand Slam at Roland Garros as he has been looking to get back to his form from earlier this season. Montreal is the first tournament since Madrid that Fils has won back-to-back matches and the Frenchman will look to elevate his game in order to reach the quarter-finals in Canada.

Norrie will aim to be aggressive on first serve as he will use the backhand to force errors from Fils forehand. Meanwhile the Frenchman will be aggressive on the second serve return as he looks to take the backhand early and pin Norrie behind the baseline. This will be a tough test for Norrie and the Brit will need a quick start if he wants to have any chance of winning the match.

Prediction: Fils in three sets.
