NRL live updates: Canberra Raiders vs Newcastle Knights, St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla Sutherland Sharks

The Newcastle Knights will look to keep their slim hopes of a top four finish alive when they head to Canberra to take on the Raiders.

Later, the Sharks will aim to continue their NRL winning run against the much-improved Dragons in the local derby at Kogarah.

Storm halfback Cameron Munster has been given a one-match ban for dangerous contact against Sea Eagles forward Taniela Paseka.

Munster was charged after making contact with the side of the knee of the Sea Eagles prop as the third man into a tackle during the first half of the game, which the Storm came from behind to win.

He takes evert fraction of a second before the timer runs out and kicks it to the 20, where Jed Stuart wins it to set up another Canberra raid!

Kaeo Weekes makes the contact, Jed Stuart was there wrapping him up – and he had his leg under the ball too – and it was lost there.

The Knights had made a brilliant break through Fletcher Sharpe and Fletcher Young, the mullets flying behind them.

Kaeo Weekes does really well to snuff out that chance too, he made the tackle on Sharpe.

The Raiders came so close to going back ahead moments before, a great kick that was put up, Ponga came for but Jed Stuart got there first, and it was only a great touch from Gagai to stop Stuart from scoring.

Easy metres for the Kinghts to get out of trouble.

Brilliant down the right for Dom Young!

Dane Gagai gets the ball from Kalyn Ponga, who dishes it off quickly to Young who breaks away.

He makes 50 metres down the sideline before passing inside to
Jermaine McEwen.

He has a man either side but Sasagi makes a brilliant tackle to fell him inside the 10.

The Knights move the ball quickly to the left where it’s Gagai who crashes into the line, spins and then scores.

Great try.

The sideline conversion is a beauty and we’re locked at 24-24!

Corey Horsburgh takes a run seconds after coming off the interchange and runs into Dane Gagai.

He lifts the Raiders’ red head and drops him on his head.

That’s a nasty one.

Surely this could/should be a sin binning?

Not according to Ashley Klein, who puts him on report.

I think that’s a cop out for me, the Knights centre should be off here.

The Raiders are going to kick for the points, and Ethan Sanders makes up for his conversion miss with a solid shot to establish a six-point lead.

It’s 24-18 to the Raiders.

Fletcher Sharpe makes a really great break down the left and the Knights, after a spell of dogged, hard-fought battles down the middle, were away.

He has Kalyn Ponga on the inside and he only needs to find him with his pass – but he can’t, the pass forcing Ponga to reach forward and he drops it.

Straight off the scrum, pass wide, Simi Sasagi dances his way past a couple of challenges and then powers his way over the try line.

Francis Manuleleua
and Lachlan Crouch
are both there wrestling him to keep the ball up off the deck – and they come mighty close to managing it!

I think that had to have touched the grass and, after what seems like an age, it is cleared.

Try Raiders.

The kick is missed – that might be huge in the context of the game.

The kick went up and Xavier Savage went up to challenge Kalyn Ponga for it.

There is a knock on called against Savage and the Raiders are going to challenge.

AND THEY GET THE DECISION!

There was a touch off Savage’s arm, but it went backwards into the arm of Ponga, at which point it went forward.

What a terrific game of football.

The weather has been frightful, but the football has been wonderful.

Three tries each, lots of brilliant ball movement from both teams.

The Raiders have had to dig deep and used some superb defence to limit the way the Knights have been able to get out of their own end.

But two tries that started deep in the Knights half helped the visitors take control early.

The Raiders hit back though after moving the ball well to their right too, and could arguably be ahead had they taken their chances.

Great game, more of the same in the next 40, please?

Ethan Sanders is hammered to the ground by Lachlan Crouch and the ball pops out.

Sanders looks up at someone to blame, but there is nobody.

That was a big tackle from the rookie, the Raiders defence as the Knights have tried to come off their line has been brilliant and it was good again there, a kick from inside their 20 telling the story of how little distance they managed.

Kalyn Ponga loses the ball, another loose carry from the Knights fullback.

The Raiders, on the last tackle, look to kick but then hold the ball and pass it out to the right side.

Kaeo Weekes takes the ball to the line, gets wrapped up but pokes his head through the tackle and offloads into the hands of Sasagi, who runs around to score under the posts.

That’s a really nice try.

Ethan’s Strange and Sanders had their hand-prints all over that move and it was lovely stuff really.

We’re back level at 18-18.

Oh my!

Simi Sasagi got to the outside on the right.

He is a massive man and races into the line, with contact made a metre or so from the line.

He should have held onto the ball and backed himself to be tackled over the line, but instead he passes a flick pass to Xavier Savage, who looked even more surprised to see his centre pass to him than we were.

Sasagi ends up falling well into the in-goal area and the ball ends up trickling out of play harmlessly.

Big chance blown.
