The federal government recently approved new carbon credit rules that could deliver one of the biggest wins for forest conservation in decades, while also supporting a viable transition for forest workers and generating high-integrity carbon credits.
The new rules allow some state governments to earn Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) if they stop logging public native forests. For example, if the NSW government ends logging in all state forests, it would earn more than $1 billion in carbon credit revenue over 15 years.
