SHANE van Gisbergen will this weekend return to the NASCAR Truck Series with Spire Motorsports at Richmond Raceway, with the outing receiving the backing of the Hendrick Automotive Group, the primary business of legendary Cup Series team owner Rick Hendrick.
Last time out in the Truck Series with Spire at North Wilkesboro, SVG registered a third-place finish, which followed in the wheel tracks of a third-place result he scored with Niece Motorsports at Watkins Glen.
The number #7 entry this year has been a full-time entry for the squad, featuring an all-star lineup of drivers, including Kyle Busch, Chase Elliot, Michael McDowell, Rajah Caruth and others.
Busch, in fact, raced the Chevrolet Silverado to two wins, including at Dover, the final victory of his NASCAR career before he sadly passed away.
The HendrickCars.com colours are typically seen as Kyle Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports Cup Series entry.
On previous occasions when SVG has completed double duty in the Truck Series on an oval this year, he has subsequently also stepped up in performance in the Cup Series.
At Charlotte, on debut with Spire, a solid run in the Trucks was converted to 11th in the Coca-Cola 600, with a race that picked up points in all three stages.
Meanwhile at North Wilkesboro, he finished an outstanding fifth in the Cup Series.
With only three races remaining before the cut-off for the Chase postseason, van Gisbergen holds down 15th in the standings, despite a 30th-place effort last time out at Iowa.
Following Richmond, the Cup Series heads to New Hampshire, with the regular season finale set for Daytona.
Last year at Richmond in the Cup Series, he moved from 27th at the start to 14th at the chequered flag.
This weekend’s Truck Series race is set for Saturday morning Australian time.
